This agreement governs your use of the Coast Capital Savings Federal Credit Union (“CCS”) online membership application tool. If you are applying for a personal membership, the Personal Account and Services Agreement will govern the operation of all accounts and related services. If you are applying for a business membership on behalf of a business, the Business Account and Services Agreement will govern the operation of all accounts and related services.
By proceeding with the online membership application process, you agree to the following terms:
You agree to provide accurate and current information. A failure to provide accurate and current information may result in CCS being unable to accept your application.
When you open an account with us, either for yourself or on behalf of a business, CCS uses the credit reporting agencies Equifax and/or TransUnion to verify your identity. This involves CCS providing to Equifax and TransUnion the information that you have supplied during the application process. CCS also obtains a copy of your credit report from the credit reporting agencies in order to improve the accuracy of our identity verification procedures and to set certain policies relating to your account, such as the amount of time funds are held after you deposit a cheque. Equifax and TransUnion may, in turn, request information about you from credit reporting agencies, other financial institutions, telecommunications service providers or other organizations.
By agreeing to these terms and conditions and continuing with the online membership application process, you expressly consent to CCS, Equifax and TransUnion verifying and comparing your information (for example your first and last name, mobile phone number, etc.), account information (for example account status, account type, etc.), location information (for example your latitude, longitude, etc.) to records of your information maintained by third parties, including credit reporting agencies, other financial institutions and telecommunication services providers, and you consent to such third parties providing such information to CCS, Equifax and TransUnion for the purpose of identity validation or risk assessment.
If CCS is not able to verify your identity with Equifax or Transunion, your name, address and date of birth will be provided to Canada Post, so that you will be able to identify yourself at a Canada Post location. The online application will provide you with more information on this. If you do not identify yourself at a Canada Post location within 90 days, CCS will request that Canada Post delete your information.
The information you provide during the online membership application process may be stored and processed in the United States. Accordingly, the information you provide during the online membership application process may be subject to valid information requests made by the government agencies in the United States.
You are required to provide your Social Insurance Number (“SIN”) as part of the application process to enable CCS to verify your identity. CCS may also require your SIN to report interest payments to the government. CCS’s use of your SIN for other purposes, and your ability to opt out of that use, is set out in CCS’s Privacy Policy.
If you are not comfortable with your personal information being shared with Equifax , TransUnion or Canada Post or you are not comfortable providing your SIN, please make an appointment to open an account in person at a Coast Capital Savings Federal Credit Union branch. Depending on the types of services you receive from CCS, CCS may still require a SIN to meet its reporting obligations.
For more information on how CCS handles your personal information, and to find out who to contact to request more information, please see our Privacy Policy.
CCS will use email to correspond with you and with any joint applicants (or, in the case of business memberships, other representatives of the business) throughout the application process. You are responsible for ensuring you check your email regularly to receive notices from CCS in a timely manner, and for ensuring that any joint applicants (or other business representatives) do the same. Unless otherwise agreed upon between you and CCS, CCS may also use your email address to provide you with notices required by law, such as account statements.
If you start an online application for membership and the application process is not completed, CCS may send you emails to let you know about the steps required to complete your membership application. By using the online application tool, you consent to receiving a reasonable number of emails for this purpose.
During the online membership application process, you may choose to set up pre-authorized payments for recurring bills received from merchants, such as monthly phone, cable television or utility bills. If you choose to use this functionality, those bills will be automatically paid out of the designated account each month when they arrive. CCS uses a third party service provider to provide this functionality. By choosing to use this functionality, you authorize CCS and its third party service provider to contact the merchants involved and to update billing information stored with them on your behalf.
As part of the online membership application process, you will be required to make an initial deposit in to the new account. You may do so in a number of ways, including by taking a photograph of a cheque drawn on an account with another financial institution. If you choose to make your deposit in this way, the terms relating to Deposit-on-the-Go contained in Personal Account Services Agreement or the Business Account Services Agreement, whichever is applicable, will apply.
Information generated throughout the course of the application process, including your account numbers and Personal Access Codes, will be recorded by CCS and will constitute the signature and signature card for the purposes of opening a membership.
CCS may use phone to correspond with you and with any joint applicants throughout the application process.
If you are applying for a business membership, you state that you have been granted the authority by the business to apply for a membership on its behalf. During the application process you, or if necessary other representatives of the business, will be required to accept the Business Account and Services Agreement on behalf of the business.
Depending on the type of business you represent, CCS may require documentation such as a statement of registration or business license, a partnership agreement or articles of incorporation. You will be asked for the necessary documents during the application process. If you are unable to provide the necessary documents, CCS may be unable to accept your application. CCS may also use a third party service provider to verify these documents or to obtain additional information about the business.
CCS and its service providers are not responsible for any losses you or any other person or business may sustain arising from a failure of CCS to approve a membership within a given period of time or at all.
The application process will be conducted entirely online. The terms that you agree to in the course of the application process, including the terms contained in this agreement, the Personal Account and Services Agreement or Business Account and Services Agreement, and the Privacy Policy, will be legally binding just as they would be if you were to fill out and sign a paper application. These terms will be legally binding as of the time that you indicate that you agree to them and no exchange of signed paper copies is required for them to be enforceable.
This agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable in British Columbia, irrespective of where you live or where you are located when you apply for membership.
